Mathematical Theory of Plasticity for Frictional Materials
نویسنده
چکیده
We consider the extension of the classical mathematical theory of plasticity to frictional materials. It is shown that the apparently nonassociated plastic flow characteristics often observed in such materials can be accounted for by models that are variational in structure. In addition, the theory predicts a number of new terms and functional relationships that appear to have particular relevance to granular materials. The theory is illustrated by the construction and calibration of a simple five-parameter model for sands.

Calculation of lateral earth pressure on retaining walls is one of the main issues in geotechnics. The upper and lower bound theorems of plasticity are used to analyze the stability of geotechnical structures include bearing capacity of foundations, lateral earth pressure on retaining walls and factor of safety of slopes. In this paper formulation of finite element limit analysis is introduced ...
متن کاملIncluding friction in the mathematics of classical plasticity
In classical plasticity there are clear mathematical links between the dissipation function and the consequent yield function and flow rule. These links help to construct constitutive equations with the minimum of adjustable parameters. Modelling granular materials, however, requires that the dissipation function depends on the current stress state (frictional plasticity) and this changes the m...
متن کاملCan We Trust Numerical Collapse Load Simulations Using Non- associated Flow Rules?
ABSTRACT: Numerical simulations using continuum mechanics and elasto-plasticity are often used in geotechnical design. Determination of collapse loads may be part of such simulations. However, non-associated flow rules applied to frictional materials normally provide lower collapse loads than stated by classical methods. Should we stick to the classical solutions for design or should we rather ...
متن کاملElastoplastic Buckling Analysis of Plates Involving Free Edges by Deformation Theory of Plasticity (RESEARCH NOTE)
Abstract In this paper elastoplastic buckling of rectangular plates with different boundary conditions are investigated. Differential governing equations of plate are obtained on the basis of general loading and according to deformation theory (DT) of plasticity. Various loading conditions contain uniaxial, biaxial and shear are studied. The employed material is AL7075T6 which is usually used...
متن کاملFEM Implementation of the Coupled Elastoplastic/Damage Model: Failure Prediction of Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRPs) Composites
The coupled damage/plasticity model for meso-level which is ply-level in case of Uni-Directional (UD) Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRPs) is implemented. The mathematical formulations, particularly the plasticity part, are discussed in a comprehensive manner. The plastic potential is defined in effective stress space and the damage evolution is based on the theory of irreversible thermodynamics. T...
